Father Ian Hagan noted on the weekend of October 8-9 that the church will pay $250,000 for a new heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system. If that is the price, some ask, why does the Legacy Project cost $3.3 million?
The HVAC unit, it turns out, is only one part of a more extensive renovation, which includes the construction of a gathering plaza and play area. The new HVAC unit must be located on the roof, according to city regulations, and the roof must be strengthened to accommodate it. In addition to structural improvements, the HVAC requires installation and new duct work. $250,000 will pay for the unit itself, not for everything that goes with it.
