We will once again celebrate the Day of the Dead, All Souls’ Day, or El Dia de Los Muertos throughout the month of November.
This year the celebration will be virtual.
If you would like your loved one to be remembered during this time, please email a photo to Pam List at pam@stjulieschurch.org by October 27, 2020.
You may include a favorite memory if desired. Part of the tradition is to share good things about your loved one, who they were to you, and sometimes how they died.
Many times altars created by the families of the deceased filled with favorite foods along with brightly colored flowers, including the Mexican Marigold. You may also find representations of calacas (skeletons) and calaveras (skulls). There might be sugar skulls, sweetbreads, or chocolates with the loved one’s name inscribed. There will be candles and symbols of the Saints and our Blessed Mother. There is a rich history in this Southern Mexico tradition and its outer regions, and we encourage you to read more about this celebration with your family.
This tradition is especially a blessing for many families who could not attend funerals because of travel restrictions or financial difficulties because of the COVID crisis.
If you cannot send a digital image, please let the parish office know, we will do our best to accommodate.
