“Let the children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God!” Matthew 19:14
St Julie’s has a unique, but effective First Communion Program. At a Catholic Baptism, all parents heard and gave assent to these words,
“You have asked to have your child baptized. In doing so you are accepting the responsibility of training him/her in the practice of the faith. It will be your duty to bring him/her up to keep God's commandments as Christ taught us, by loving God and our neighbor. … On your part, you must make it your constant care to bring him/her up in the practice of the faith. See that the divine life which God gives him/her is kept safe from the poison of sin, to grow always stronger in his/her heart. … (Parents are) the first teachers of their child in the ways of faith. May they be also the best of teachers,
bearing witness to the faith by what they say and do”.
St Julie’s seeks to help equip parents in carrying out this mission to which God has called them. We provide you the tools to come alongside your child and help them develop a deeper relationship with God - our Father, Who created us; Jesus, Who died to save us; and the Holy Spirit, Who sustains us and gives us grace especially through the Sacraments.
This year, due to these unprecedented times, we will be entrusting more to parents in guiding their child’s faith formation within the Domestic Church. As Pope Francis reminds us, “Families are the domestic Church, where Jesus grows; he grows in the love of spouses, he grows in the lives of children.” (National Convocation of the “Renewal of the Spirit,” June 4, 2014)
We believe these times are giving us, as the domestic church, a great opportunity to center our family’s faith life within the home. Our goal is to draw the whole family to Christ and into the life of the Church in a deeper way, while providing a Catholic Faith Foundation in Year 1 and then digging deeper into the Mass and Sacraments, culminating with the reception of Jesus in Holy Eucharist at your child’s First Communion Mass in Year 2.
